RESUMO

O livro discute aspectos históricos e atuais da lepidopterologia sob o olhar da pesquisa e da conservação. Em seu primeiro capítulo, são abordadas cinco diferentes gerações do estudo dos lepidópteros. A 1a, caracterizada por produção de desenhos, a 2ª definida pela formação das coleções científicas, na qual surge o Paradigma do colecionador, a 3ª advinda de preocupações ambientais que estimularam o desenvolvimento do manejo de lepidópteros, a 4ª moldada pela sistemática molecular e a 5ª que reúne os saberes das anteriores agregando tecnologias digitais e internet. O segundo capítulo apresenta um estudo de caso com resultados preliminares da aplicação experimental da 5ª geração. O terceiro capítulo sugere que as listas de espécies incluam informações capazes de refletir a biodiversidade ao longo do tempo e se beneficiem das tecnologias abarcadas na 5ª geração. O quarto capítulo apresenta a descrição da Armadilha Curytiba, que permite estudos de 5ª geração para lepidópteros noturnos. Por fim, registra-se que o contexto ambiental mundial e a crise de manutenção das coleções científicas impulsionam o emprego das inovações trazidas pela 5ª geração, oportunizando caminhos que favorecem efetivamente a conservação dos lepidópteros.

ABSTRACT

The book discusses historical and current lepidopterology under the lens of research and conservation. In its first chapter, five different generations of the lepidoptera study are addressed. The 1st, characterized by the production of illustrations, the 2nddefined by the formation of scientific collections, in which appears the Collector’s Paradigm, the 3rdstemming from environmental preoccupations that stimulated the development of the lepidoptera handling, the 4thshaped by the molecular systematic, and the 5thwhich reunites the learning of the previous ones, aggregating digital technologies and the internet. The second chapter displays a case study with preliminary results of the experimental application of the 5thgeneration. The third chapter suggests that the lists of species include information able to reflect the biodiversity through time and benefit from the Technologies covered in the 5thgeneration. The fourth chapter presents the description of the Curytiba Trap, which allows the 5thgeneration studies for nocturne lepidoptera. Finally, it is registered that the worldwide environmental context and the scientific collection maintenance crises stimulate the employment of the innovations brought by the 5thgeneration, giving opportunity to ways which effectively favor the Lepidoptera conservation.
